The Editorial Board for EBM Consult welcomes submissions for consideration of publication on the website.  As with any publication service, there are specific formats that submitted content should be in.  We have made every effort to make this easy as it is your contributions that in part help us all to have access to important evidence-based medical information. 

Therefore, please follow the instructions outline below. Only submissions meeting the below format will be reviewed for consideration of publication on the website.

Article Guidance & Formatting

    EBM Focused Article Submission

    Description:

    The overall purpose of focused EBM article is to utilize the process of evidence-based medicine and appropriately answer clinical questions in the proper context of the evidence in a manner that is concise, easy to understand, based on the best available evidence, and oriented to the patient. 


    Sections of the Article:

    • PICO or PICOTS
      • This is the process of breaking down the clinical question where P = patient population, I = intervention of interest, C = comparison or standard of care, O = outcome of interest, T = time to measure the endpoint or outcome, and S = setting.
    • Take Home Points:
      • This section should be 3-5 bullet points and reflect the primary answers or core knowledge gained from the review.
    • Summary Section:
      • This is where the answer to the PICO or PICOTS is answered and summarized in a manner that is concise, easy to understand, and reflects all of the available evidence summarized in the remaining part of the article. 
    • Summaries of the Evidence:
      • Each section summarizes the best available evidence and each section is separated by the type of evidence and their overall ranking of quality of evidence where guideline statements are collated together, systematic reviews and meta-analysis collated together, prospective clinical trials collated together, etc. 
      • See the example attached and available online as a standard.  In addition, you can download the file here to fill in the blanks to help you organize the evidence.  Doing this ahead of time will aid in summarizing the literature for the take home points and summary section.

    Journal Article Summary Submission

    Description:

    The overall purpose of this article is to review a single study or citation.  Usually this is a single prospective clinical trial that is not only well designed but also of clinical importance.


    Sections of the Article:

    • PICO or PICOTS for the Study
      • This is the process of breaking down the clinical question where P = patient population, I = intervention of interest, C = comparison or standard of care, O = outcome of interest, T = time to measure the endpoint or outcome, and S = setting.
    • Take Home Points:
      • This section should be 3-5 bullet points and reflect the primary answers or core knowledge gained from the review.
    • Study Abstract Summary:
      • This section provides a concise summary of study.  It is important to make every attempt to fill in each component in the blank template linked here.

    How to Rank Level of Evidence

    When ranking the evidence in the focused EBM Article, please set the level (e.g., Level 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5) in your submission where it is requested in the blank template based on the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Level of Evidence.  If you are new to this ranking system, please read the basic introduction document on how to figure out the level of evidence.  Please recognize not ranking system is perfect and has limitations.  The desired goal is to help the reader get a quick idea or assessment to evidence they are reading about.

    Unit of Measure Format

    Please designated all measurements in conventional units and then put Systeme International (SI) units in parenthesis.


    Drug Name Format

    All drug names should be provided as generic names.  If marketed or branded product names are used, please place it in parenthesis.

    Examples:

    • Fluoxetine
    • Sertraline (Zoloft)

    Copyright Transfer

    EBM Consult, LLC is the owner of all copyright to any work published by EBM Consult, LLC.  Submission of an article for publication, all authors listed fully agree to turn over the rights to the content so that EBM Consult, LLC and its subsidiaries have the right to use, reproduce, transmit, derive works from, publish, and distribute the contribution in any form or medium.  In addition, authors may not grant authorization to use content, once accepted, without the written approval from EBM Consult's Editor-in-Chief or Chief Executive Officer.


    Submission of Article

    Before submission please make sure each of the following have been done:

    1. Completed all sections related to the article type in the template document provided on this page

      2. Single Journal Article Summary - BLANK TEMPLATE FOR AUTHORS - DOWNLOAD
    2. Verify the format of references is correctly and that you provided the PMIDs
    3. Ensure the article was internally peer-reviewed (by the authors of the article) before submission and provide that reviewers contact information
    4. Verify all measurements are in the correct units as described above
    5. Assign the proper level of evidence to each reference
    6. Read the copyright agreement
    7. Submit the completed files as a Microsoft Word document to:  editor@ebmconsult.com

     

    Review & Approval Process

    1. Once received, an initial internal review of the submission will occur to ensure proper format and completion.  In complete or articles submitted in the incorrect format will be returned to submitting author for proper completion.
    2. Properly completed and formatted articles will then undergo full internal review by the EBM Consult Editorial Board and additional external peer-review when deemed necessary.
      1. EBM Consult Editors may ask the authors to provide clarification if deemed necessary.
    3. Recommendations for publication or rejection or provisional acceptance will made to the Editor-in-Chief who will then make the final decision. 
      1. It is our goal to give you an official final decision or answer within 2-4 weeks of submission.
    4. If accepted for publication on the website, all authors, reviewers and editors involved will be designated on the article page for purposes of transparency.
    5. By submitting and the acceptance of the article for publication, the author and all co-authors and peer-reviewers automatically transfer the copyright to the content as outlined on this page.

    Upon final acceptance and publication of your article, you may cite your publication in the following format.
